Who You Will Work With
Patrick Wight
Co-Founder of Mill City Financial Partners
Strategic financial guidance, strong values, and a genuine care for the people around him. These are a few of the reasons clients cite for partnering with Patrick as their financial advisor. With over two decades of wealth management experience, Patrick is a knowledgeable and respected leader in helping individuals and small businesses achieve financial freedom – offering investment management, tax guidance, retirement income & estate planning, and risk management solutions. Patrick began his career in corporate finance and accounting in 1995 and leverages this background to identify financial strategies that mirror the life and legacy desired by his clients.
As a native of Minnesota, Patrick graduated from St. Cloud State University with degrees in finance and economics. He holds FINRA Series 6, 7, 63, 65 and 66 securities registrations, providing access to a full range of financial products and services. In the interest of giving back to the community, Patrick has enjoyed serving on numerous non-profit boards such as Southwest Christian High School. Patrick is also active in the Minnesota chapter of CMT (Chartered Market Technicians) and Kingdom Advisors, an organization that assists clients in aligning their assets and investments to their values.
Patrick and his wife, Heidi, live in Prior Lake and have three grown children – Hunter (and his wife Inga), Jalen, and Olivia. When he’s not in the office, you can find Patrick playing piano, mentoring, leading church worship, fly fishing in the upper Midwest and Montana, or hunting with his British Lab, Piper.

J. Kipling "Kip" Johansen
Co-Founder of Mill City Financial Partners
Since 1997, family households and businesses have chosen to work with Kip because he communicates openly about the things most important to them, while encouraging his clients to pursue their financial goals. To aid his clients in the process of putting together sound financial strategies, he shares creative solutions with them, often acting as a financial architect. This helps them address their wealth management needs in relation to minimizing taxes, maximizing income, transferring estates, and preserving capital. In a complex world of regulations and industry jargon, Kip provides clients with the clear information they need to make well-informed decisions.
Kip is a long-standing member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA). He is also a graduate of Bethel College, in St. Paul, MN, and has earned the designation of Life Underwriting Training Council Fellow (LUTCF) from The American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Kip holds securities registrations of Series 7, 6, 63, 62, 65, and 22, offering fully independent, fee-based advisory services to best serve the needs of his clients.
Kip and his wife, Anne, have been married since 1993, and have two grown sons and a new daughter-in-law. Away from the office, he enjoys trying out new restaurants with Anne, serving at his local church, training for the next big hike, and appreciates any opportunity to get out on the golf course.
